2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 257 BY SENATORS ALARIO, ALLAIN, APPEL, BARROW, BISHOP, BOUDREAUX, CARTER, CHABERT, CLAITOR, COLOMB, CORTEZ, DONAHUE, ERDEY, FANNIN, GATTI, HENSGENS, HEWITT, JOHNS, LAFLEUR, LAMBERT, LONG, LUNEAU, MARTINY, MILKOVICH, MILLS, MIZELL, MORRELL, MORRISH, PEACOCK, PETERSON, PRICE, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHITE A RESOLUTION To commend Sharon Work, administrative secretary in the office of the Senate President, on a long and distinguished career and exemplary public service to the state of Louisiana upon the occasion of her richly deserved retirement. WHEREAS, it is with deep appreciation that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana commends Sharon Work for forty-five years of exceptional service to the state of Louisiana including more than thirty-one years to the Senate; and WHEREAS, Sharon graduated from Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge in 1968, and earned a bachelor's degree in business education from Louisiana State University in 1972; and WHEREAS, Sharon embarked on her public service career with employment in the state Department of Education from 1972 to 1975, and joined the Department of Justice in 1987 and 1988 as legal secretary for the chief of the Environmental Enforcement Section, after being employed as an administrative assistant in the United States Department of Commerce at the United States Pavillion at the Louisiana World Exposition from 1983 to 1985; and WHEREAS, Sharon began her service in the Louisiana Legislature with the Legislative Council from 1975 to 1981, serving as secretary to the House Committee on Commerce, followed by work with the House of Representatives in the summer of 1983 as an administrative aide in the Office of the Speaker, before joining the Senate staff in April 1988; and WHEREAS, her assignments with the Senate, prior to moving to the President's office, included secretarial duties with the Senate Committee on Revenue and Fiscal Affairs, Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 257 ENROLLED the ACTION Subcommittee on Louisiana in a Global Economy, and the Select Committee on Crime and Drugs; and WHEREAS, Sharon has served in the President's Office under Senators Randy Ewing, John J. Hainkel Jr., Donald E. "Don" Hines, Joel Chaisson, and John A. Alario Jr.; and WHEREAS, during her tenure, Sharon has always been loyal and dedicated, willing to go the extra mile and to share her knowledge and expertise with others, and she has conducted herself in the most cordial, concise, and compassionate manner possible and presented a kind demeanor in every situation; and WHEREAS, Sharon has always focused on the task at hand; she is a planner who accounts for all the minute details and logistics of a committee meeting or other circumstances that demand her undivided attention; and WHEREAS, while in the President's office, her many tasks included greeting visitors, assisting in meeting schedules, handling correspondence, and coordinating events; and WHEREAS, Sharon has been the "hostess with the mostest" at hundreds of Senate events hosted in the President's apartment over the decades; and WHEREAS, she is the mother of one daughter, Adrian, and three grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Sharon is a globetrotter and always up for a trip, having visited numerous countries; and WHEREAS, after working four plus decades for the state government, Sharon intends to enjoy each day of her retirement to its fullest with her family and traveling the world; and WHEREAS, it is hoped by legislators, staff members, and friends, both past and present, who have shared a substantial portion of their lives with Sharon at the state capitol, that she will fondly recall the memories of longtime friendships, past legislative sessions, numerous sine dies, the rarified environment of state government, and the personalities over the years. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Sharon Work upon more than forty-five years of extraordinary public service and congratulate her on the occasion of her retirement. Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 257 ENROLLED BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby offer congratulations to Sharon on her retirement and extend best wishes for health and happiness in all her future endeavors.
