SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 29
BY SENATOR COLOMB 
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH.  Recognizes Tuesday, April 16, 2019, as LSU Day at the
state capitol and acknowledges LSU's valuable contributions to the residents of Louisiana.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To recognize Tuesday, April 16, 2019, as LSU Day at the state capitol and acknowledge
3 LSU's valuable contributions to the citizens of Louisiana.
4 WHEREAS, Louisiana State University (LSU), through its eight institutions, offers
5 the most comprehensive education system in the state, with a public mission focused on
6 education, research, and outreach; and
7 WHEREAS, Forbes ranks LSU among the Top 20 national universities, that
8 dominate in both academics and athletics; and
9 WHEREAS, LSU is the largest university in the state, educates over forty-eight
10 thousand students annually, and maintains the highest graduation rate amongst Louisiana's
11 public universities; and
12 WHEREAS, LSU's educational mission encompasses a broad array of academic
13 programs, from two-year programs to doctoral programs, including programs in law and
14 medicine, as well as expanded offerings in online education; and
15 WHEREAS, the only schools in the state for dentistry and veterinary medicine are
16 found within LSU; and 
17 WHEREAS, LSU has fifty-one percent of the certified Centers of Excellence in the
18 state; and

1 WHEREAS, LSU has over $1.1 billion in total research dollars and LSU researchers
2 across Louisiana are working on developing a wide-range of innovations to improve quality
3 of life for Louisiana and for citizens nationwide by studying issues such as disease
4 management, advanced medical treatments, obesity, coastal protection, hurricane
5 preparedness, energy, natural resource management, and agriculture; and 
6 WHEREAS, LSU employs faculty who are excellent, and world renowned
7 teacher-scholars who are nationally competitive in research and creative activities and
8 outlets, and who contribute greatly to a world-class knowledge base that is transferable to
9 educational, professional, cultural, and economic enterprise, and who use their extensive
10 talents and resources to solve economic, environmental, and social challenges; and 
11 WHEREAS, the generosity of the citizens of Louisiana and throughout the nation
12 have contributed to the support of Louisiana State University, and LSU has in turn provided
13 quality education, basic and applied research, new and state-of-the-art discoveries in all
14 fields, numerous hours of volunteerism, and valuable public service; and
15 WHEREAS, LSU is Louisiana's most important economic asset, contributing over
16 $5.1 billion in total Louisiana sales, providing an estimated 41,000 jobs to communities and
17 over $1.9 billion in new statewide earnings; demonstrating that for every dollar provided by
18 the state, LSU provides a $13.25 return of economic activity; and
19 WHEREAS, LSU, as the nation's smartest investment, is consistently ranked as one
20 of the country's top values by Kiplinger, Forbes, Money, SmartAsset, and PayScale; and
21 WHEREAS, LSU remains one of the greatest investments for Louisiana; one focused
22 only on improving the quality of life for Louisiana's citizens.
23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
24 does hereby recognize Tuesday, April 16, 2019, as LSU Day at the state capitol and does
25 hereby acknowledge LSU's valuable contributions to the residents of Louisiana.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to LSU
27 President, F. King Alexander.
