SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 34
BY SENATOR APPEL 
A RESOLUTION
To welcome former students of La Salle College in Hong Kong to the state of Louisiana and
to wish them well on their reunion tour.
WHEREAS, several former students of La Salle College in Hong Kong have come
together to conduct a reunion tour in 2019; and 
WHEREAS, La Salle College is a boys high school in Hong Kong established by the
Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a Roman Catholic religious teaching order
founded by St. John Baptist de La Salle; and
WHEREAS, the foundation for the school was laid in 1930 with the formal
inauguration of the college occurring in 1932; and
WHEREAS, during World War II, the British designated the college campus as an
internment camp for German nationals and later as a relief hospital and, after the British
surrender of Hong Kong, the Japanese took over the school building, the Brothers were
expelled from the college, and school operations remained suspended until September 1946,
during which time the Japanese were believed to have used the college as a military hospital;
and 
WHEREAS, La Salle College consistently produces scholars who excel in public
examinations and its graduates are consistently accepted by world-renowned universities;
and 
WHEREAS, in sports, La Salle College has won championships in archery, athletics,
badminton, basketball, cross country, fencing, football, hockey, softball, squash, swimming,
table tennis, tennis, ten-pin bowling, and volleyball, and has been recognized as the boys
secondary school with the best all-round sporting performance in the Hong Kong Island and
Kowloon region twenty-six times; and

WHEREAS, La Salle College has achieved tremendous results in terms of music as
well; and 
WHEREAS, among the many notable alumni of the school is martial arts movie star
Bruce Lee, who started at the school in 1952; and 
WHEREAS, Louis Kong, who organized this 2019 La Salle Old Boys Reunion Tour,
is a member of the Class of 1979, resides in New Orleans, and is a practicing architect in this
state who graduated from Tulane University in 1986 with a master's in architecture and a
master's of business administration; and 
WHEREAS, other tour members include:  Nick Domingo, Class of 1963, who resides
in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and is a retired IT manager who graduated from
the University of Hong Kong in 1969; Christopher Cheung, Class of 1964, who resides in
Monterey Park, California, and is a retired pharmacist now part-time investment speculator
and who graduated from ISU School of Pharmacy; Louis Chan, Class of 1965, who resides
in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and is a dentist who graduated from the University of Alberta
in 1973 and 1982; Weddy Chan, Class of 1979, who resides in Hong Kong, SAR, and is the
general manager in a trading company and holds a bachelor in business administration from
Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1996 and Executive MBA from City University of Hong
Kong, 2014, and Andrew Szeto, Class of 1979, who resides in Old Bridge, New Jersey, and
is an IT professional who graduated from Queens College, CUNY in 1984.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby welcome former students of La Salle College in Hong Kong to the state of
Louisiana and does hereby wish them well on their reunion tour.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Louis Kong, Nick Domingo, Christopher Cheung, Louis Chan, Weddy Chan, and
Andrew Szeto.
