SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 41
BY SENATOR BARROW 
A RESOLUTION
To commend Leroy J. Poydras for his military service during World War II and to
congratulate him upon reaching the milestone of ninety-eight years.
WHEREAS, Leroy J. Poydras, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana,
recently celebrated his ninety-eighth birthday; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Poydras is well known in the Baton Rouge community for his work
in several local businesses, and as a teacher and educator for many years, including teaching
at Scotlandville High School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Poydras served in the United States Navy from September 1940,
until September 1946, which included deployments on the USS New York on
November 19, 1940, to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; USS Texas on January 21, 1941, to
Mayaguez, Puerto Rico; USS PC 485, USS PC 597, USS Okanogan, and USS Florence
Nightingale; and
WHEREAS, he also served in Iceland in 1941 for the British Occupation of Iceland
during Operation Fork, and received the World War II Victory Medal and American Defense
Service Medal in recognition of his service in the United States military; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his many achievements, Mr. Poydras is a deeply beloved
member of the Baton Rouge community who has earned the respect and admiration of the
countless citizens whose lives he has touched; and
WHEREAS, Leroy J. Poydras, one of Louisiana's finest sons, merits a special
measure of commendation for his achievements as a veteran and an educator, and in
celebration of his ninety-eighth birthday.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Leroy J. Poydras for his exceptional and exemplary
service as an educator and member of the United States Navy; does hereby express to him
enduring appreciation for his distinguished service to the citizens of Baton Rouge, the state
of Louisiana, and the United States of America; does hereby commend and congratulate him
upon the historic occasion of his ninety-eighth birthday and record for posterity the
extraordinary life he has lived since his birth; and does hereby extend to him best wishes for
continued success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Leroy J. Poydras.
