2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 74 BY SENATORS MILLS AND PEACOCK A RESOLUTION To designate May 9, 2019, as "Louisiana Physical Therapy Association Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol and commend the association on its outstanding achievements and contributions to improving the health and welfare of Louisiana. WHEREAS, physical therapy is a corporeal medicine and rehabilitation specialty that rededicates impairments and promotes mobility, function, and quality of life for patients through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, and physical interventions which use mechanical force and movements; and WHEREAS, the practice of physical therapy endeavors to enhance the physical health and functional abilities of the people of Louisiana through the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of movement dysfunctions, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal conditions; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association (LPTA) adopted its first bylaws in 1982; and WHEREAS, since its inception the LPTA has provided outstanding leadership for those eligible for its membership of physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and students in Louisiana who are pursuing careers in the practice of physical therapy; and WHEREAS, the LPTA strives to expand its membership among physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and students in these disciplines in order to enhance participation in legislative policymaking to achieve greater influence in healthcare delivery issues for the benefit of their patients; and WHEREAS, the association has been instrumental in assisting its members to provide the highest quality care available and the members of the association proudly employ their skills in the best interest of their patients; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 74 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the LPTA proclaims in its mission statement that it exists to optimize the health and quality of life of the people of Louisiana by advancing the profession of physical therapy; and WHEREAS, this outstanding organization has provided leadership to the physical therapy professionals who practice in Louisiana by promoting key values and behaviors that embrace professionalism; and WHEREAS, in focusing on its mission, the LPTA provides numerous educational opportunities to meet the needs of students of physical therapy, clinicians, and society at large; and WHEREAS, with an aging population and an increasing emphasis on physical fitness and health, the members of the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association, including physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and students engaged in the study of these professions, will play an ever increasing significant role in improving health outcomes and longevity for Louisiana citizens today and into the future. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate May 9, 2019, as "Louisiana Physical Therapy Association Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol and commends the association on its outstanding achievements and contributions to improving the health and welfare of Louisiana citizens.
