SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 78

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Northlake Christian School boys soccer team upon winning the 2019
Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division IV state championship.
WHEREAS, on Saturday, February 23, 2019, the No. 5 seed Northlake Christian
School boys soccer team defeated Isidore Newman School by a score of 2-1 at the
University of Louisiana at Lafayette Soccer Complex to win the Louisiana High School
Athletic Association (LHSAA) Division IV state title and finish their outstanding season
with a record of 13-5-2; this year's championship win was a welcome duplicate of a 2016
state championship match between these same two teams played in New Orleans, also won
by Northlake Christian School by a score of 2-1; and
WHEREAS, the 2019 state championship was the culmination of an impressive
playoff run for Northlake Christian School in which the Wolverines defeated No. 4 seed
Episcopal of Baton Rouge in the quarterfinals and No. 1 seed Episcopal of Acadiana in the
state semifinals, handing Episcopal of Acadiana its first loss in more than two years; each
Wolverine performed at the highest levels of excellence throughout the season and deserves
recognition for his vital contributions to the winning effort: Garrett Acosta, Carlos Avila,
Andrew Beshenich, Colby Desselles, Titus Dillon, Collin Edwards, Andrew Ehrlich, Jackson
Fontanille, Harry Fontenoy, Sammy Fontenoy, Lundon Hidalgo, Cole Hodge, Riley Ireland,
Joe Kemp, Caleb Lewis, Ian Lopez, Jackson McMurtry, Jake Mizell, Jackson Picone,
Edward St. Pierre, Man Powell, Logan Randazzo, Seth Rodivich, Luke Smithson, Dallas
West, Jace Windom, and Justus Windom, all of whom expended preparation and competitive
energies toward the successes of the season; and

WHEREAS, Nick Chetta, head coach of the Northlake Christian School Wolverines,
has instilled an ethic of winning in these student athletes, and has demonstrated leadership
and motivational skills that have led to success both on and off the field for the team; he and
the Northlake coaching, support, and administrative staff were integral to the achievements
of the boys soccer team; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Wolverines
have earned; to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at the
most difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to
the team members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown
while achieving the highest state boys soccer honor possible for Northlake Christian School.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate the athletes, coach, and management staff of the
Northlake Christian School boys soccer team for winning the 2019 LHSAA Division IV
state championship, capping off a truly spectacular season, and does hereby recognize the
team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor they have brought to their school
and community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Head Coach Nick Chetta.
