SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 8

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Grambling State University student athletes, coaches, athletic director, and
university president for outstanding achievements during the 2018-2019 seasons.
WHEREAS, the Grambling State University Tigers women's and men's basketball
teams finished the season advancing to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC)
semifinals after performing at the highest levels of excellence; and
WHEREAS, the Grambling State University athletic department and coaching staff
demonstrated exemplary leadership earning top honors, including SWAC women's soccer
Coach of the Year, Justin Wagar; Skip Professor Man of the Year finalist, Donte Jackson,
for his work with men's basketball; and Coach Freddie Murray for cultivating all-conference
honors students for multiple years; and
WHEREAS, Grambling State University linebacker, De'Arius Christmas, earned
twenty top honors within the SWAC and nationwide, including selection as a finalist for the
National Football Foundation's National Scholar Athlete and the National Football
Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy, as well as SWAC All-Academic Team honors
and Grambling State University Student Athlete of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Grambling State University football team members William Waddell,
Jordan Jones, La'Allan Clark, De'Arius Christmas, and Marc Orozco were named to the
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) FCS All-American First Team; and
WHEREAS, Grambling State University women's soccer team members Haileigh
Adams, Kaylee Holt, Kailey Pena, Brittany Terry, Florence David, and Jasmine Smith were
named All-SWAC honors players; and Haileigh Adams, Kaylee Holt, Florence David and
Kailey Pena received 2018 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Women's
Soccer Team honors; and

WHEREAS, the exemplary accomplishments of the Grambling Tigers could not have
been achieved without the guidance and skill of the coaching staffs, Athletic Director Dr.
David Pointon, and President Richard J. Gallot Jr., all of whom demonstrated the kind of
leadership, vision, and motivational skills needed to produce leadership and achievement on
the courts, on the fields, and in life; and
WHEREAS, the members and coaches of the Grambling State University athletic
program merit a sincere measure of commendation for their remarkable athletic feats and for
the honor they bring to Grambling State University.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend the members of the Grambling State University Tigers athletic
department, Athletic Director, Dr. David Pointon, and President Richard J. Gallot Jr. for
their outstanding achievements during the 2018-2019 seasons and for the tremendous pride
they bring to the University of Louisiana System, Grambling State University, the
community, and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
president of Grambling State University.
