SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 9
BY SENATOR JOHNS AND REPRESENTATI VE FARNUM 
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Glen
Edward Bonin.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Legislature of
Louisiana learned of the passing of Glen Edward Bonin, a resident of Sulphur, Louisiana,
on May 31, 2020, at age eighty-nine; and
WHEREAS, Glenn Edward Bonin was born on September 23, 1930, in Lake Charles,
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, he was a graduate of Lafayette High School and a Golden Glove boxer,
and attended USL (The University of Southwestern Louisiana), now UL, at Lafayette; and
WHEREAS, after marrying the love of his life, Georgia Bonin, they moved to
Sulphur where they raised their children; and
WHEREAS, he served in the United States National Guard for eight years; and
WHEREAS, Glen was the owner of Bonin Construction for over fifty years until his
retirement in 1991; and
WHEREAS, he was a Charter Member of the Maplewood-Hollywood Lions Club,
holding positions as President and Board Member; his love of the Lions Club brought him
to Louisiana Lions Club Crippled Children's Camp where he held positions as President,
among others, and received the Golden Star Staff Member Award, and "Lion of the Year"
in 1970-1971 and 1986-1987; and
WHEREAS, Glen was instrumental in organizing the Sulphur High School Leo Club
as well as the national Leo Club where he served as an advisor for nine years; and
WHEREAS, he was the charter director of the Louisiana Lion's Eye Foundation in
New Orleans, Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, Glen was presented a life membership in the Maplewood-Hollywood
Lion's club on February 11, 1994, and received the Philanthropist of the Year award in 2012;
and
WHEREAS, Glen was also one of the founding members of Care Help of Sulphur
as well as the Community Thanksgiving Dinner; he was honored as the first Father of the
Year by the Toreadors at Sulphur High School in 1968, and also served as President of
Sulphur High School Band Boosters, Chairman of Moving and Building of Brimstone
Museum, Chairman of West Calcasieu BiCentennial, Charter President of the Brimstone
Historical Museum, Board Member and President of the West Calcasieu Chamber of
Commerce and member for fifty years, Board Member of the Sulphur Industrial Board for
six years, Board Member of the Chamber Southwest from 1985-1987, Charter President of
Louisiana Western Corridor, Inc. (Hwy 171), Board Member of the Calcasieu Parish
Industrial Board from 1978-1980, Board Member of Summit Hospital, and Board Member
of the Sabine River Authority; and
WHEREAS, he received the Citizen of the Year award in 1987 and the Volunteer of
the Year award in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Glen was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for
over sixty years; and
WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, Hill and Rena Bonin; brother,
Hill Bonin Jr.; son-in-law, Tommy Jeansonne; and granddaughter, Mandy Jeansonne Poche';
and
WHEREAS, Glen is survived by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Georgia Bonin;
children, Billy J. Bonin and wife Myra, Glenda Bonin Jeansonne, Lisa Bonin Schram and
husband Gus, and Michael R. Bonin and wife, Darlene Gautreaux Bonin; nine grandchildren;
eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Nada Bonin Landry;
special friend and caregiver, Tony Hogan; and a host of nieces and nephews, to cherish his
memory; and
WHEREAS, Glen Edward Bonin was a singular individual with a generous nature,
blessed with an abundance of determination and skills; he extended courtesy to all, and
leaves a rich and unique legacy of good works to his family, community, and state.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Glen
Edward Bonin and does hereby acknowledge his lifelong commitment to his community,
state, and nation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his
wife, Georgia Bonin.
