SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21

CONDOLENCES.  Expresses condolences upon the death of Dr. Bobbie Deshotel.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
3 death of Dr. Bobbie Deshotel.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Senate of the
5 Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Dr. Bobbie Deshotel on May 22, 2020, at
6 age eighty-three; and
7 WHEREAS, he was a 1954 graduate of Vidrine High School and 1960 graduate of
8 the LSU Medical School; and
9 WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel began his practice in 1962 and retired in 2011 just shy of
10 fifty years of service; and
11 WHEREAS, at the time of his death, he was still serving as the Basile school district
12 representative on the Evangeline Parish School Board, a position he held for fifty-one years;
13 and
14 WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel also served as mayor of Basile for six years during the
15 1960s and as assistant coroner for Evangeline Parish over the years; and
16 WHEREAS, over time, he was a member of the board of directors of Basile State
17 Bank, founding member and president of the Louisiana Swine Festival Association, member
18 of the Basile Athletic Association, team doctor for the Bearcats, little league coach,

1 scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 76, and a member of the Tyeaux De Basile Hunting Club;
2 and
3 WHEREAS, he was a parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church with a special
4 devotion to the Virgin Mary; and
5 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, Adraste and Edmae Guillory
6 Deshotel; and
7 WHEREAS, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and
8 friend who will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him, especially his loving, wife
9 of sixty-one years, Joella F. Deshotel; his five loving children, Randall M. Deshotel, Robert
10 L. Deshotel and wife, Lisa, Cherie D. Frey and husband, Shane, Derek J. Deshotel and wife,
11 Pegi, and Robin M. Deshotel and wife, Jill; his pride and joy, his fourteen grandchildren,
12 Sarah D. Johnson, Camille D. Manuel, Allison D. Fontenot, Travis Deshotel, Trevor
13 Deshotel, Taylor D. George, Cole Frey, Stefan Frey, Hannah Deshotel, Trevor Kratzer,
14 Taylor Duplichan, Mason Deshotel, Vivian Deshotel, and Isabella Deshotel; and fifteen
15 great-great-grandchildren as well as extended family and friends; and
16 WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel was a physician, public servant, and civic leader who
17 embodied integrity, courtesy, and kindness; and
18 WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel was a generous man blessed with an abundance of skills, 
19 and he leaves a rich and unique legacy of providing health care, public service, and civic
20 leadership to his community.
21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
22 does hereby extend its condolences to the family of Dr. Bobbie Deshotel.
23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his
24 wife, Joella F. Deshotel.
