2020 First Extraordinary Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21 BY SENATOR CLOUD A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Dr. Bobbie Deshotel. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Dr. Bobbie Deshotel on May 22, 2020, at age eighty-three; and WHEREAS, he was a 1954 graduate of Vidrine High School and 1960 graduate of the LSU Medical School; and WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel began his practice in 1962 and retired in 2011 just shy of fifty years of service; and WHEREAS, at the time of his death, he was serving as the Basile school district representative on the Evangeline Parish School Board, a position he held for fifty-one years; and WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel also served as mayor of Basile for six years during the 1960s and as assistant coroner for Evangeline Parish over the years; and WHEREAS, over time, he was a member of the board of directors of Basile State Bank, founding member and president of the Louisiana Swine Festival Association, member of the Basile Athletic Association, team doctor for the Bearcats, little league coach, scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 76, and a member of the Tyeaux De Basile Hunting Club; and WHEREAS, he was a parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church with a special devotion to the Virgin Mary; and WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, Adraste and Edmae Guillory Deshotel; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 21 ENROLLED WHEREAS, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him, especially his loving wife of sixty-one years, Joella F. Deshotel; his five loving children, Randall M. Deshotel, Robert L. Deshotel and wife, Lisa, Cherie D. Frey and husband, Shane, Derek J. Deshotel and wife, Pegi, and Robin M. Deshotel and wife, Jill; his pride and joy, his fourteen grandchildren, Sarah D. Johnson, Camille D. Manuel, Allison D. Fontenot, Travis Deshotel, Trevor Deshotel, Taylor D. George, Cole Frey, Stefan Frey, Hannah Deshotel, Trevor Kratzer, Taylor Duplichan, Mason Deshotel, Vivian Deshotel, and Isabella Deshotel; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren as well as extended family and friends; and WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel was a physician, public servant, and civic leader who embodied integrity, courtesy, and kindness; and WHEREAS, Dr. Deshotel was a generous man blessed with an abundance of skills, and he leaves a rich and unique legacy of providing health care, public service, and civic leadership to his community. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend its condolences to the family of Dr. Bobbie Deshotel.
