R.S. 15:1199.4(O) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 11 ยง1199.4. Reentry Advisory Council; creation; members; powers and duties 12 * * * 13 O. Any appointed member who is absent for two meetings out of four 14 consecutive meetings of the council shall be disqualified and removed from the 15 council membership. The council shall notify the nominating entity that the person 16 has been removed from the council membership pursuant to this Subsection and 17 request that the appointing entity provide a list of three nominees to the governor to 18 fill the vacancy. The former member shall not be eligible for reappointment until 19 expiration of the balance of the vacated term. [R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 117 Original 2020 Regular Session Dwight Abstract: Provides for the removal of a member from the Reentry Advisory Council for missing a certain number of council meetings and provides for the procedures for the replacement of the disqualified member by the nominating authority. Present law provides for the Reentry Advisory Council established within the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to serve as an advisory body to the secretary of the department and the legislature with respect to the administration of the inmate rehabilitation and workforce development program. Present law further provides that the council shall be comprised of 22 members, 12 of whom are appointed by the governor from a list of persons submitted by a specific entity. Present law provides that appointed members of the council shall serve for four-year terms. Present law provides that the council shall meet at least quarterly and may meet upon the call of the chairman or any three members. Proposed law retains present law and provides that any appointed member who is absent for two meetings out of four consecutive meetings of the council shall be disqualified and removed from the council membership. Proposed law requires the council to notify the nominating entity that the person has been removed from the council membership pursuant to proposed law and request that the entity provide a list of three nominees to the governor to fill the vacancy. Proposed law further provides that the former member shall not be eligible for reappointment until expiration of the balance of the vacated term.
