R.S. 17:17.1(A)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 8 ยง17.1. Required physical activity in schools; recess 9 A.(1) Each public school that includes any of the grades kindergarten 10 through eight shall provide at least thirty minutes each school day of quality 11 moderate to vigorous physical activity for students. In addition, each such school 12 shall provide a recess of at least thirty minutes per day. Present law requires each public school that includes any of the grades kindergarten through eight to provide at least 30 minutes each school day of quality moderate to vigorous physical activity for students. Proposed law additionally requires each such school to provide at least 30 minutes of recess each day, defined as a play environment outside of regular classroom instructional activities where students are allowed to engage in supervised, safe, and active free play.
