HLS 20RS-897 ORIGINAL 2020 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 605 BY REPRESENTATIVE DUPLESSIS MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES: Authorizes the update of a driver's permanent address online 1 AN ACT 2To amend and reenact R.S. 32:406, relative to notification of a permanent address change 3 to the driver's license division of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections; 4 to authorize a licensee to update their permanent address in person, by mail, or 5 online; and to provide for related matters. 6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 7 Section 1. R.S. 32:406 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 8 ยง406. Licensee must give notice of change of address 9 A. Whenever any person after applying for or receiving a license shall move 10 permanently from the address or place of residence named in the application he shall, 11 within ten days thereafter, notify the driver's license division, in writing or 12 electronically of such change and of his new address. 13 B. A licensee may update their permanent address in person, by mail, or 14 online to correct their address for the issuance of a Class "D" or "E" license. The 15 reconstructed driver's license shall be mailed to the licensee's updated permanent 16 address. 17 C. The provisions of this Act shall not apply to the REAL ID. 18 Section 2. The Department of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor 19vehicles, shall promulgate and adopt rules and regulations in accordance with the 20Administrative Procedure Act, necessary to implement the provisions of this Act. Present law requires a person to notify the driver's license division in writing within 10 days of a change of address after applying for a driver's license. Proposed law authorizes a licensee to update their permanent address in person, by mail, or online to have their license issued with the correct address for Class "D" and "E" licenses. Proposed law requires the reconstructed license be mailed to the licensee's updated permanent address. Proposed law prohibits the application of proposed law to the REAL ID. Proposed law requires the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor vehicles, to promulgate and adopt rules and regulations in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act, necessary to implement the provisions of proposed law.
