MTR VEHICLE/TRUCKS: Provides relative to registration of Class 1 trucks and trailers
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 47:508(A)(1), relative to Class 1 registration renewals; to require
3 Class 1 registrations renew annually on the effective date of issuance; and to provide
4 for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 47:508(A)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
7 ยง508. Registration; commercial vehicles; exemption
8 A.(1) Except as provided in Paragraph (2) of this Subsection, every vehicle
9 registration under this Chapter other than those licensed under R.S. 47:463(A), R.S.
10 47:511(B), and those included, by regulation of the secretary, in the staggered
11 registration system, shall expire on June thirtieth of each year. The registrations shall
12 be renewed annually between May first and June thirtieth of each year.
13 Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the registration applicable to
14 a Class 1 vehicle, as defined in R.S. 47:462(A)(1), shall renew annually based on
15 the effective date of issuance.

Abstract: Requires Class 1 licenses to be renewed on the effective date of issuance.
Present law requires every vehicle registration under present law, other than those licensed
under present law (R.S. 47:463(A), R.S. 47:511(B)), and those included by regulation of the
secretary, in the staggered registration system to expire on June 14th of each year. Present
law requires registrations be renewed annually between May 1st and June 14th of each year.
Proposed law modifies present law by requiring a Class 1 vehicle to renew annually based
on the effective date of issuance.
