HOUSE BILL NO. 783

TOURISM/COMMISSION:  Provides relative to the Red River Parish Tourism Commission
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 33:4574(F)(5), relative to the Red River Tourism Commission;
3 to provide relative to the membership of the board of directors of the commission;
4 to provide relative to terms of the members of the board; and to provide for related
5 matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 33:4574(F)(5) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:

12	(5)(a)  Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the Red
13 River Tourism Commission shall be governed by a board of eleven directors
14 appointed by the governing authority of the parish of Red River.
15	(b)  Board The directors appointed pursuant to Subparagraph (a) of this
16 Paragraph of the Red River Tourism Commission shall serve three-year terms after
17 initial terms as provided in this Subparagraph.  Three follows:  two members shall
18 serve an initial term of one year; four three shall serve initial terms of two years; and
19 four two shall serve an initial term of three years, all as determined by lot at the first
20 meeting of the board.

1	(c) (b)  Members shall be eligible for reappointment.

3 Section 2.  The terms of office of the members of the board of directors of the Red
4River Tourism Commission serving on the effective date of this Act shall terminate, and
5appointments made to the board thereafter shall be as provided in this Act.  The initial terms
6of the new members shall be as provided in R.S. 33:4574(F)(5) as amended by this Act.

Abstract: Provides relative to the Red River parish Tourism Commission.
Present law authorizes the governing authority of any parish to form and create a tourist
commission.
Present law generally provides that each tourist commission shall be governed by a board
of seven directors to be appointed by the governing authority of the parish creating the
commission.  Provides that appointments shall be made from lists of nominees submitted to
the governing authority by private, nonprofit groups that have an interest in one or more
aspects of the tourism industry.  Provides that members shall serve three-year terms. 
Provides exceptions.
Present law provides an exception for the Red River Tourism Commission.  Provides that
the commission shall be governed by a board of 11 directors appointed by the governing
authority of Red River Parish.  Provides that members shall serve three-year staggered terms
and are eligible for reappointment.
Proposed law changes total number of commission members from 11 to 7.  Otherwise retains
present law.
Provides that terms of office of board members currently serving are terminated on the
effective date of proposed law.  Further provides that initial terms of new members shall be
as provided by proposed law.
