HOUSE BILL NO. 836

DENTISTRY:  Provides relative to waiver of certain dental licensing requirements during
a declared state of emergency
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 37:761(D) and 764(E), relative to professionals licensed by the Louisiana
3 State Board of Dentistry; to provide for the waiver of certain licensing requirements
4 in the event of a declared state of emergency; to provide an effective date; and to
5 provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 37:761(D) and 764(E) are hereby enacted to read as follows: 
8 §761.  Requirements of applicants for dental license

10	D. The requirement provided in Subsection C of this Section for any national,
11 regional, or independent third-party clinical dental licensing examination passed by
12 the applicant to include procedures performed on human subjects may be waived or
13 modified by the board during a declared state of emergency.

17	E. The requirement provided in Subsection D of this Section for any national,
18 regional, or independent third-party clinical dental hygiene licensing examination
19 passed by the applicant to include procedures performed on human subjects may be
20 waived or modified by the board during a declared state of emergency.

1 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
2signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
3by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.  If
4vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
5effective on the day following such approval.

Abstract: Provides for professionals licensed by the La. State Board of Dentistry.
Present law provides that a requirement for an applicant who has successfully completed any
national, regional, or independent third-party clinical dental licensing examination approved
by the board shall include procedures performed on human subjects.
Proposed law retains present law and adds that in the event of a declared state of emergency,
the use of human subjects to test an applicant's clinical competency may be waived or
modified.
Present law provides that a requirement for an applicant who has successfully completed any
