COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES: Requires the availability of a mechanical chest compression
device at athletic events at certain public postsecondary education institutions
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 17:3991, relative to availability of first aid supplies on college campuses;
3 relative to the administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation; to require certain
4 public postsecondary education institutions obtain and maintain mechanical chest
5 compression devices; to require such devices are available at athletic events on
6 campus; and to provide for related matters.
7Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1. R.S. 17:3991 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
9 ยง3991. Athletic training offices and facilities; athletic events; mechanical chest
10 compression devices.
11 A. Public postsecondary education institutions covered by this Section shall
12 maintain the availability of a mechanical chest compression device at athletic
13 training offices or facilities on their campuses for the purpose of the administration
14 of cardiopulmonary resuscitation for individuals suffering from cardiac arrest.
15 Athletic staff shall transport such device to athletic events designated as "home
16 games." If more than one athletic event occurs simultaneously, staff shall transport
17 the device to the event where the greater number of people is likely to be present.
18 B. The following institutions shall comply with Subsection A of this Section:
19 (1) Grambling State University.

Abstract: Requires certain public postsecondary institutions to have mechanical
cardiopulmonary resuscitation compression devices on campus and to bring them to
athletic events.
Proposed law requires that certain college campuses have a physical presence of a
mechanical compression device for the administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR) for persons suffering from cardiac arrest. Requires that athletic staff bring the device
to athletic events on campus.
