INSURANCE/AUTOMOB ILE: Requires automobile insurance companies to provide
reasons for the cancellation of insurance policies to the Department of Public Safety
and Corrections
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 22:1266(D)(5), relative to the cancellation of automobile insurance policies;
3 to require notice of reasons for cancellation be sent to the Department of Public
4 Safety and Corrections; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 22:1266(D)(5) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง1266. Automobile, property, casualty, and liability insurance policies;

12 (5) Any insurer who cancels a policy for the reasons set forth in Subsection
13 B or C of this Section shall be required to also send notice, in the manner prescribed
14 pursuant to R.S. 32:863.2, to the secretary of public safety services of the
15 Department of Public Safety and Corrections, and such notice shall include the
16 reasons for cancellation of the policy.

Abstract: Requires any automobile insurer to provide notice of the reasons of cancellation
of an automobile insurance policy to the Department of Public Safety and
Corrections.
Proposed law requires an insurer who is canceling an insurance policy for the reasons set
forth in present law to provide reasons for the cancellation in the manner prescribed by
present law for giving notice to the secretary of public safety services of the Department of
Public Safety and Corrections for the cancellation of a policy.
