TRANSPORTATION DEPT: Urges and request the Department of Transportation and
Development to submit the salaries of all employees
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to submit the
3 salaries of all employees, both classified and unclassified.
4 WHEREAS, the Department of Highways was created in 1940 and abolished in
51976, when the Louisiana legislature created the Louisiana Department of Transportation
6and Development; and
7 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is a state-
8government-organized agency charged with maintaining and overseeing infrastructure needs
9such as public transportation, bridges, flood plain management, commercial vehicles, and
10roadways; and
11 WHEREAS, approximately four thousand two hundred sixty people are employed
12by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development; and
13 WHEREAS, in the interest of transparency, it is paramount for the legislature to be
14made aware of the salaries of all Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development
15employees; and
16 WHEREAS, a portion of the legislature's budget is allocated to the Louisiana
17Department of Transportation and Development to satisfy its statutory purpose and in part
18to provide for salaries; and
19 WHEREAS, considering previous budgetary shortfalls and in the interest of fiscal
20conservatism, each state agency has been asked to do more with less; and

1 WHEREAS, the legislature needs to ensure this is the case with the Louisiana
2Department of Transportation and Development; and
3 WHEREAS, transparency and accountability are what Louisiana taxpayers expect
4and deserve; the people of the state of Louisiana pay the salaries of government employees,
5and the legislature allocates those funds, so both have a right to such transparency and
6accountability.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
8urge and request the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to fully
9disclose the salaries of all employees, both classified and unclassified.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of the salaries of all employees, both
11classified and unclassified, of the Department of Transportation and Development shall be
12provided to the body of the legislature by August 1, 2020.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
14secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.
