                            ENROLLED
2020 Regular Session
HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 36
BY REPRESENTATIVE WRIGHT
A RESOLUTION
To urge and request Major League Baseball to consider locating a franchise in the New
Orleans area temporarily if a team is unable to play games in their home stadium due
to COVID-19 restrictions imposed by state or local government.
WHEREAS, some states and cities hosting Major League Baseball (MLB) franchises
have imposed restrictions on commerce and sporting events, and teams may not be able to
play in their home stadiums; and
WHEREAS, MLB has announced its intent to begin an abbreviated 2020 season in
July; and
WHEREAS, it is unlikely that fans will be allowed to attend baseball games; and
WHEREAS, Zephyrs Stadium would be a potential site to host a baseball team in
need of a facility in which to play; and
WHEREAS, Zephyrs Stadium is within a ten-minute drive of Louis Armstrong
International Airport, allowing teams easy access to the facility; and
WHEREAS, temporarily stationing an MLB team in the New Orleans area would
spur badly needed renovations to the stadium and contribute to efforts to land a minor league
team in the near future.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request Major League Baseball to consider
locating a franchise in the New Orleans area temporarily if a team is unable to play games
in their home stadium due to COVID-19 restrictions imposed by state or local government.
