ENROLLED 2020 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 43 BY REPRESENTATIVE BAGLEY A RESOLUTION To designate the week of May 17 through May 23, 2020 as Emergency Medical Services Week in Louisiana. WHEREAS, emergency medical services are vital to the public welfare; and WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and WHEREAS, emergency medical services fill a gap by providing out of hospital care, which includes preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine; and WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of emergency medical responders, emergency medical technicians, advanced emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, out-of-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers; and WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical care teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training to enhance their lifesaving skills; and WHEREAS, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, in partnership with the American College of Emergency Physicians, has designated the week of May 17 through May 23, 2020, as Emergency Medical Services Week in the nation; and WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to recognize the accomplishments of emergency medical service providers by recognizing Emergency Medical Services Week in Louisiana, the theme of which is "Ready Today. Preparing for Tomorrow". Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 43 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate May 17-23, 2020, as Emergency Medical Services Week in Louisiana and does hereby encourage the citizens of Louisiana to observe this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
