HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 8
BY REPRESENTATIVE WHEAT
A RESOLUTION
To commend the city of Ponchatoula upon its designation as a Purple Heart City.
WHEREAS, by leaving their families and communities and placing themselves in
harm's way for the good of all, veterans have paid a high price to protect freedom; and
WHEREAS, the contributions and sacrifices of the men and women who serve in the
armed forces have helped to maintain the freedoms and the way of life enjoyed by American
citizens; and
WHEREAS, many men and women in uniform have given their lives while serving;
and
WHEREAS, veterans who are recipients of the Purple Heart medal are given this
honor for being wounded or killed during combat with an enemy force while performing
singularly meritorious acts of service; and
WHEREAS, the residents of the city of Ponchatoula seek to remember and recognize
veterans who have received the Purple Heart medal; and
WHEREAS, to this end, on August 12, 2019, Mayor Robert F. Zabbia, with support
from the Ponchatoula city council, proclaimed Ponchatoula a Purple Heart City to honor the
service and sacrifice of the nation's men and women in uniform who have been wounded or
killed in action; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to commend the city of Ponchatoula upon its
designation as a Purple Heart City.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the city of Ponchatoula upon its designation
as a Purple Heart City; does hereby commend the citizens of Ponchatoula who have received

the Purple Heart medal; does hereby recognize the tremendous valor and fortitude displayed
by the soldiers who have been wounded and killed in action; and does hereby express sincere
appreciation for the sacrifices that the members of the armed forces have made in the name
of freedom.
