(1/1/21) 1 AN ACT 2 To enact R.S. 22:887(J), relative to cancellation and reinstatement by an insurer; to require 3 notice of reinstatement to be issued to interested persons; to provide for an effective 4 date; and to provide for related matters. 5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 22:887(J) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง887. Cancellation by insurer; changes to homeowner's insurance policies 8 * * * 9 J. Any insurer that issues notice of cancellation on an insurance policy 10 that provides casualty coverage and later continues or reinstates that insurance 11 policy shall issue notice of reinstatement to every policyholder, insurance 12 producer, or other known person shown by the policy to have an interest in any 13 loss which may occur thereunder and who received the notice of cancellation. 14 Section 2. DIGEST SB 195 Original 2020 Regular Session Bernard Present law requires any insurer to give notice when a policy is canceled. Requires that notice be given to the insured and to any known person shown by the policy to have an interest in any loss that may occur. Proposed law retains present law and, if an insurer gives notice of cancellation of a casualty policy and later continues or reinstates the policy, requires the insurer to give notice of reinstatement to any known person shown by the policy to have an interest in any loss that may occur who received the notice of cancellation.
