SLS 20RS-455 ORIGINAL 2020 Regular Session SENATE BILL NO. 405 BY SENATOR FOIL NURSES. Provides relative to collaborative practice agreements between advanced practice registered nurses and licensed physicians or dentists. (8/1/20) 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact the introductory paragraph of R.S. 37:913(9) and R.S. 37:913(9)(a), 3 relative to collaborative practice agreements between advanced practice registered 4 nurses and licensed physicians or dentists; to provide for the definition of 5 collaborative practice agreement; to provide for approval of the collaborative 6 practice agreement by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing and the Louisiana State 7 Board of Medical Examiners or Louisiana State Board of Dentistry; and to provide 8 for related matters. 9 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 10 Section 1. The introductory paragraph of R.S. 37:913(9) and R.S. 37:913(9)(a) are 11 hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 12 ยง913. DIGEST SB 405 Original 2020 Regular Session Foil Present law defines "collaborative practice agreement" as a formal written statement addressing the parameters of the collaborative practice which are mutually agreed upon by the advanced practice registered nurse and one or more licensed physicians or dentists. Proposed law retains present law and adds a requirement that the agreement is subject to joint approval by the LSBN and the LSBME or LSBD. Present law requires a collaborating physician to be available for consultation or referral, or both. Proposed law retains present law and adds a requirement that the collaborating physician must be licensed to practice and be domiciled in Louisiana. Effective August 1, 2020.
