MOTOR VEHICLES. Provides relative to the LSU National Champions special prestige
license plate. (8/1/20)
1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 47:463.126(A), (C), and (F), relative to the Louisiana State
3 University National Champions special prestige license plate; to designate the plate
4 to honor the undefeated 2019 Louisiana State University National Champion football
5 team; and to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 47:463.126 (A), (C), and (F) are hereby amended and reenacted to
8 read as follows:
9 ยง463.126. Special prestige license plates; 2019 Louisiana State University National
10 Champions
11 A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall
12 establish a special prestige license plate to be known as the 2019 Louisiana State
13 University National Champions plate, provided there is a minimum of are at least
14 one thousand applicants for such the plate. The license plate shall be restricted to
15 passenger cars, pickup trucks, vans, and recreational vehicles. The license plate shall
16 be of a color and design selected by Louisiana State University. The institution shall
17 be prohibited from requesting any change to the design or color of the license plate

1 within a five-year period after the date of acceptance of a specific color and design.

3 C. A one-time royalty fee of twenty-five dollars for use of the 2019
4 Louisiana State University National Champions design shall be collected by the
5 department and shall be forwarded to the institution for each license issued as
6 provided for in this Section. The department shall also collect the standard motor
7 vehicle registration license fee tax provided in R.S. 47:463 and a handling fee of
8 three dollars and fifty cents. The handling fee shall be retained by the department
9 to offset a portion of the administrative costs.

11 F. Upon the signing of a contract authorizing the use of the design for the
12 2019 Louisiana State University National Champions special prestige license plate,
13 the secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall establish the
14 prestige license plate in accordance with the provisions of this Section. This contract
15 shall include an agreement on the part of the institution to use the royalty fees as
16 provided in Subsection E of this Section.

Present law creates a Louisiana State University National Champions special prestige license
plate.
Proposed law retains present law and designates the plate as the 2019 Louisiana State
University National Champions plate.
Present law requires the D. P. S. & C. to collect the standard motor vehicle registration
license fee provided in R.S. 47:463.
Proposed law makes a technical correction changing "fee" to "tax".
Effective August 1, 2020.
