Present law provides for a nine person board of commissioners for the St. Mary Levee District
appointed by the governor, subject to Senate confirmation, who reside in St. Mary Parish and meet
the requirements of R.S. 38:304(A).
Present law provides for the governor to appoint eight persons from a list submitted by the St. Mary
Parish Council containing three nominations from each of the eight single member parish council
districts in St. Mary Parish, from which the governor appoints one member to represent each district.
Present law provides for the governor to appoint one member at-large from a list submitted jointly
by the legislative delegation representing St. Mary Parish.
Proposed law changes present law to provide for the legislative delegation to appoint one person at-
large to the board of commissioners of the St. Mary Levee District, subject to Senate confirmation.
Effective August 1, 2020.
