2020 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 13 BY SENATORS PEACOCK, ABRAHAM, ALLAIN, BARROW, BERNARD, BOUDREAUX, CATHEY, CLOUD, CONNICK, CORTEZ, FESI, FIELDS, FOIL, HARRIS, HEWITT, JACKSON, JOHNS, MCMATH, MILLIGAN, FRED MILLS, ROBERT MILLS, MIZELL, MORRIS, POPE, REESE, SMITH, TALBOT, WARD, WHITE AND WOMACK A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Meagan Crews upon winning the title of Miss Louisiana 2019. WHEREAS, on June 22, 2019, at the W.L. Jack Howard Theatre in Monroe, Meagan Crews competed, along with twenty-eight other aspiring young women from across the state, to be crowned Miss Louisiana, and to graciously represent her state both nationally and internationally during the coming year; and WHEREAS, after the preliminaries and interviews of the Miss Louisiana 2019 Pageant, Miss Crews won the talent portion with her beautifully talented vocal rendition of the song "I Will Always Love You"; and WHEREAS, Miss Crews hails from Bossier City and is a marketing/advertising design major at Louisiana State University in Shreveport where she has served as Student Government Association (SGA) President; and WHEREAS, she began competing in beauty pageants at the age of six, was crowned Miss Louisiana Outstanding Teen in 2014, and was the reigning Miss Louisiana Watermelon Festival upon her entry in the competition for this year's Miss Louisiana Pageant; and WHEREAS, through the YWCA of Northwest Louisiana, Meagan Crews promotes her social impact initiative as an ambassador of LEAD - Leadership Empowerment And Development, an enrichment program that promotes the development of leadership and communication skills as a strong foundation for youth empowerment; and WHEREAS, LEAD is a program for teen girls that focuses on topics that include self-respect, healthy relationships, dating, cultural competency, and effective communication; and Meagan is proud to serve as its spokesperson throughout the state of Louisiana; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 13 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Meagan Crews will compete in the Miss America Pageant in September of this year; and WHEREAS, as an added benefit of the competitive process, Meagan Crews won a $10,000 scholarship as Miss Louisiana and also won an additional $1,000 scholarship for the talent round of the competition; and WHEREAS, Miss Crews aspires to continue her education, to pursue a juris doctor degree, and to secure a career as a legal professional; and WHEREAS, Meagan Crews is to be congratulated for the tremendous honor she imparts to her family, community, and state. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Meagan Crews upon winning the title of Miss Louisiana 2019 and upon her many accomplishments and talents. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that best wishes are hereby extended to Meagan Crews for continued success in her reign as Miss Louisiana and in all her future endeavors.
