2020 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 14 BY SENATOR PEACOCK A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the family, friends, and fellowship of postal workers of Antonio Deshon Williams, a person fulfilled by his service to his fellow man, family, and community. WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana have learned of the sudden passing of postal worker Antonio Deshon Williams, a loving individual whose kindness and compassion for others was a reflection of his Christian spirit; and WHEREAS, he was born in Shreveport on June 28, 1966, and passed from this life on Saturday, June 22, 2019, a week short of his fifty-third birthday; and WHEREAS, he was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in 1984; and WHEREAS, Antonio was a man of generous spirit whose love of family and friends was paramount in his life; he had great affection for his fellow letter carriers, for the members of the South Side Rydaz Motorcycle Club, and for the NFL Dallas Cowboys Football Team; and WHEREAS, as a United States Postal Service mail carrier for seventeen years, he was a familiar fixture on his route throughout the city's neighborhoods; Antonio had a friendly smile and a kind word for all of his patrons; often he was the only daily contact for the elderly and the disabled who looked forward to his warm "hello", a friendly knock at the door, and a wave of his hand as he passed by; and WHEREAS, with Pastor Joe Williams officiating, a homecoming celebration was held on Saturday, June 29th, at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium that was attended by many friends, family, postal employees, and local officials who paid their last respects as they passed by the golden flag-draped casket; they bid farewell to their beloved Antonio "D-Shot" Williams with heartfelt words and glorious song; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 14 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Antonio is survived by his loving wife, Ivy Shelby-Williams; their six daughters: Unikea Johnson, Brittany Shelby, Crystal Shelby Douglas, Ashley Johnson, Demetria Sumlin, and Erica Jackson; one son, Antonio Johnson; and thirteen grandchildren; and WHEREAS, upon his untimely death, the community of Shreveport-Bossier has lost a unique individual who left an indelible mark upon the lives of all who knew him and benefitted from his generosity of spirit; and WHEREAS, although Antonio has been taken from our midst all too soon, yet he will be remembered for his devotion to family, his friendly demeanor, his smile, his kindness to others, his courage, and his steadfast dedication to his job and community. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Antonio Deshon Williams of Shreveport, Louisiana, upon his homegoing. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED and noted that the life of Antonio Deshon Williams was well spent in benevolent service to others, and at his passing, we pay tribute to the remarkable legacy that shall live long in the hearts of those he touched with his goodness.
