2020 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 36 BY SENATOR WHITE A RESOLUTION To urge and request the Senate Committee on Judiciary A to study and make recommendations with respect to the advisability of creating a statewide business court. WHEREAS, the state of Louisiana has experienced exponential growth in business and industry; and WHEREAS, the legal issues arising in the daily activities of business and industry are often complex, requiring specialized legal knowledge; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Louisiana would benefit from the creation of a statewide business court with jurisdiction over matters which arise in business and industry; and WHEREAS, there are many benefits of creating specialized courts, and particularly a business court. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Senate Committee on Judiciary A to study and make recommendations on the advisability of creating a statewide business court. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the committee shall make a report of its findings and recommendations, with a suggestion for proposed legislation, if any, to the president of the Senate by February 1, 2021. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Louisiana State Bar Association, Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, Council for A Better Louisiana, Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana, Greater New Orleans, Inc., Louisiana District Judges Association, Louisiana Supreme Court, Louisiana Association for Justice, New Orleans Regional Black Chamber of Commerce, Southern University Law Center, Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, Tulane Law School, LSU Law Center, Louisiana AFL-CIO, Louisiana Clerk of Courts Association, the Louisiana Sheriff's Association, Louisiana Urban League, and Louisiana NAACP.
