ENROLLED 2021 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 32 BY REPRESENTATIVES SCHEXNAYDER, MACK, MINCEY, AND WHEAT AND SENATORS LAMBERT, POPE, AND WHITE A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To express the condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana on the death of Charles Earl "Charlie" Martin. WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the death, on January 27, 2021, of Charles Earl "Charlie" Martin, former mayor of the town of Springfield, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Charlie was born on October 15, 1949, in Hammond, Louisiana; prior to holding a public office, he worked as a safety coordinator for DuPont; and WHEREAS, Charlie served as mayor of Springfield for many years and was serving as a town alderman at the time of his death; and WHEREAS, Mr. Martin left a lasting impact on Springfield during his time in office; he helped secure grants for numerous projects, most notably the town's new sewer system; he also mapped and documented burials in the Springfield Cemetery and submitted detailed information to the Louisiana Cemetery Board; and WHEREAS, in his free time, Charlie cherished camping trips, road trips, and spending quality time with his family and friends; he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #258; and WHEREAS, Charlie was an exceptionally faithful man and an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Springfield; he regularly offered his support to the church in any capacity necessary and even helped maintain the church's lawn; and WHEREAS, Charles Martin is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Susan Abels Martin; his daughter, Alisha Martin Stoetzner, and her husband Steven; his sisters, Debbie Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 32 ENROLLED Martin, and her husband Terry, and Joyce "Grandmaw" Menck, and her husband John; his brothers, Michael Martin, and his wife Genie, Jimmy Martin, and his wife Barbara, and Johnny Martin, and his wife Mel; his grandchildren, Macy Alexis Stoetzner, Hunter Austin Stoetzner, and Fisher Allen Stoetzner; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends; and WHEREAS, Charlie's contributions to Springfield are too numerous to list; he was respected and beloved by the community, and he will be deeply missed. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Charles Earl "Charlie" Martin; does hereby recognize Charlie's innumerable contributions to the town of Springfield as mayor and alderman; and does hereby extend sincere hopes that his family and friends might find comfort during this difficult time.
