HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 65
BY REPRESENTATIVE DUSTIN MILLER
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Recognizes May 2021 as Nurses Month in Louisiana
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To recognize May 2021 as Nurses Month in Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, in Louisiana, registered and advanced practice nurses constitute the
4state's largest healthcare profession; and
5 WHEREAS, because of its depth and breadth, the registered nursing profession is
6well suited to meeting the diverse and emerging healthcare needs of the Louisiana
7population in a wide range of settings; and
8 WHEREAS, as the voice for registered nurses in Louisiana, the Louisiana State
9Nurses Association is working to chart a new course to a healthy citizenry that relies on
10increasing access to primary and preventative health care; and
11 WHEREAS, in a national context characterized by a renewed emphasis on increasing
12access to primary and preventative health care, it will be necessary for the state to make
13better use of its registered nursing resources; and
14 WHEREAS, professional nursing is an indispensable component of quality health
15care for hospitalized patients; and
16 WHEREAS, in the future, the demand for registered nursing services will be greater
17than ever because of the aging American population, the continuing expansion of life-
18sustaining technologies, and the explosive growth of home healthcare services; and
19 WHEREAS, in the future, more qualified registered nurses are needed to meet the
20increasingly complex needs of healthcare consumers in Louisiana; and

1 WHEREAS, along with the American Nurses Association, the Louisiana State
2Nurses Association has declared May as Nurses Month with the theme "You Make a
3Difference" in recognition of the large numbers of nurses who had an unparalleled impact
4during the pandemic, and as an invitation to the citizens of Louisiana to extend gratitude to
5members of the nursing profession.
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
7recognize May 2021 as Nurses Month in Louisiana and does hereby encourage all residents
8of Louisiana to join in honoring the registered nurses who care for all and in celebrating their
9accomplishments and efforts to improve the healthcare system of the state.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
11president of the Louisiana State Nurses Association.
