ENROLLED 2021 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 65 BY REPRESENTATIVE DUSTIN MILLER AND SENATORS BOUDREAUX, CLOUD, AND HENSGENS A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To recognize May 2021 as Nurses Month in Louisiana. WHEREAS, in Louisiana, registered and advanced practice nurses constitute the state's largest healthcare profession; and WHEREAS, because of its depth and breadth, the registered nursing profession is well suited to meeting the diverse and emerging healthcare needs of the Louisiana population in a wide range of settings; and WHEREAS, as the voice for registered nurses in Louisiana, the Louisiana State Nurses Association is working to chart a new course to a healthy citizenry that relies on increasing access to primary and preventative health care; and WHEREAS, in a national context characterized by a renewed emphasis on increasing access to primary and preventative health care, it will be necessary for the state to make better use of its registered nursing resources; and WHEREAS, professional nursing is an indispensable component of quality health care for hospitalized patients; and WHEREAS, in the future, the demand for registered nursing services will be greater than ever because of the aging American population, the continuing expansion of life- sustaining technologies, and the explosive growth of home healthcare services; and WHEREAS, in the future, more qualified registered nurses are needed to meet the increasingly complex needs of healthcare consumers in Louisiana; and WHEREAS, along with the American Nurses Association, the Louisiana State Nurses Association has declared May as Nurses Month with the theme "You Make a Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 65 ENROLLED Difference" in recognition of the large numbers of nurses who had an unparalleled impact during the pandemic, and as an invitation to the citizens of Louisiana to extend gratitude to members of the nursing profession. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize May 2021 as Nurses Month in Louisiana and does hereby encourage all residents of Louisiana to join in honoring the registered nurses who care for all and in celebrating their accomplishments and efforts to improve the healthcare system of the state. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the president of the Louisiana State Nurses Association.
