HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 115
BY REPRESENTATIVE SCHAMERHORN
A RESOLUTION
To commend the organizers and volunteers of the 2021 Battle of Pleasant Hill Re-enactment
and Festival.
WHEREAS, the Battle of Pleasant Hill Re-enactment and Festival commemorates
the April 9, 1864, Civil War battle that occurred in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, as part of the
Red River Campaign; the event is one of the largest and longest-running living history
events in the state of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, in April 2021, the Battle of Pleasant Hill celebrated its forty-second
event, and the organization has already begun planning for future events; one of the special
elements of this re-enactment is that it occurs on the original battlefield; Pleasant Hill affords
its visitors the opportunity to learn about a Civil War battle standing on the actual battlefield;
and
WHEREAS, the commemoration of the Battle of Pleasant Hill seeks to remember
those who lived in Pleasant Hill and survived this destructive event and those who died in
battle; the re-enactment supports preservation projects such as the "Save the Dogtrot" project
and strives to memorialize the participants of the Battle of Pleasant Hill as a tribute to our
country's history; and
WHEREAS, the Battle of Pleasant Hill Re-enactment and Festival officers are
Katelyn Calhoun, ten-year board member and festival president; Austin Ladner, vice
president; Holly Ladner, treasurer; Dawne Smith, secretary; Gary Stephens, battle
coordinator and colonel and commander of the Trans Mississippi Volunteer Battalion;
Donald Kimbell, commandant; Autumn Palmer, Miss Battle of Pleasant Hill; Annabelle
Bagley, Teen Miss Battle of Pleasant Hill; and board members Karen Hardee, Corey
Calhoun, Susan Davis, Sean Davis, Thomas Webb, and Cally Killingsworth; they also
receive help from a number of other volunteers; and

WHEREAS, the committee for the Battle of Pleasant Hill Re-enactment and Festival
are most deserving of recognition for their work to preserve the history of our state and
country. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the organizers and volunteers of the 2021
Battle of Pleasant Hill Re-enactment and Festival and does hereby extend sincere hopes for
the success of their future re-enactments and festivals.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
organizers of the 2021 Battle of Pleasant Hill Re-enactment and Festival.
