HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 12
BY REPRESENTATIVE THOMPSON
A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Dorothy
Hester Bell.
WHEREAS, it is with heavy hearts that the House of Representatives has learned of
the death of Dorothy Hester Bell; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy was born in Shreveport on December 31, 1926, to Earl
Randolph and Clover Feazel Hester; she was raised in Arcadia, Louisiana, where her father
served as principal of Arcadia High School; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Bell graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1949 with a
bachelor of arts in mathematics; while studying at Louisiana Tech, she met and married
David H. Bell, beginning what would become fifty-seven happy years of marriage; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy went on to earn a master of education degree and masters plus
30 from Northeast Louisiana University; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Bell began her teaching career in Arkansas before returning to
Louisiana in 1954 to teach algebra and geometry to several generations of students at Delhi
High School; she officially retired from teaching in 1987 but continued to offer her
assistance and advice to students for many years after her retirement; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Bell loved to tend to her yard and flower beds and was a collector
of antique furniture; she was also involved in various civic groups, including the Delhi
Garden Club and The Hannah House; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Bell was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church in Rayville,
Louisiana; however, she also enjoyed many church activities with the Delhi Presbyterian and
Delhi Methodist churches; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Bell is survived by her daughter, Cathey A. Bell; her son, David
H. Bell; her granddaughters, Jordan Amborn, and her husband Rob, and Caitlin Knighton;
her great-grandchildren, Louis Amborn, Mary Hannah Amborn, Cole Knighton, Ethan
Knighton, and Dean Knighton; and nieces, Lynda, Patricia, and Susan Wallace; she will be
deeply missed by all.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Dorothy
Hester Bell; does hereby recognize her decades of service to her many students and the
citizens of Delhi; and does hereby extend sincere hopes and wishes that her family, friends,
loved ones, and former students find comfort during this difficult time.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Dorothy Hester Bell.
