HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 121

A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Geraldine C.
"Gerrie" Holt, of Sieper, Louisiana.
WHEREAS, the members of the Louisiana House of Representatives were saddened
to learn of the death of Geraldine C. "Gerrie" Holt on May 14, 2021, at the age of eighty-
five; and
WHEREAS, born in Pollock, Louisiana, on December 15, 1935, Gerrie's life was an
adventurous one; her father was a pipefitter, and she attended schools across the United
States in her formative years; she graduated from Heath High School in Paducah, Kentucky;
and
WHEREAS, Gerrie attended Alexandria Business College and gained employment
at Rapides Bank as a bookkeeper; and
WHEREAS, on June 5, 1955, Gerrie married Winfred Holt, and for several years,
Gerrie and Winfred operated Holt's Grocery in Otis, Louisiana, while they raised their
children; and
WHEREAS, the Holts were instrumental in the July 1969 startup of Hineston Water
System, Incorporated; Gerrie served many years as the bookkeeper of the system; and
WHEREAS, Gerrie Holt served as a Rapides Parish Ward 5 precinct poll
commissioner; she retired from Alexandria Super Storage as a manager; and
WHEREAS, Gerrie's retirement years were spent rocking on her front porch,
drinking coffee, and watching the sunrise in Sieper, Louisiana; Gerrie's love of cooking
brought joy to her family and friends, who enjoyed her delicious meals; she was a member
of Dixie Baptist Church and Homewood Baptist Church, and her spiritual fellowship brought
many into her circle of friendship; Gerrie Holt was called Momma, Maw Maw, Miz Gerrie,
and Sister by those who knew and loved her; and

WHEREAS, her absence is felt most in the hearts of family and friends, and she will
be missed by her children, Pattie Holt Williams, and her husband Dennie, Denise Holt
McCool, and her husband Danny, Winfred "Butch" Holt, and his wife Lisa, and Harold
"Scotty" Holt, and his wife Nita; her grandchildren, Lakin Fredieu, Lindsey Murrell, Wesley
and Wyatt Holt, Darci and Dillon McCool, Zachary and Sarah Williams, and Morgan Paul;
her great-grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and friends.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend sincere condolences to the family of Geraldine
C. "Gerrie" Holt and does hereby express hopes for comfort and peace to those who mourn.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Geraldine Holt.
