ENROLLED 2021 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 130 BY REPRESENTATIVE ROMERO A RESOLUTION To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of former Lake Arthur mayor, E.R. "Red" Giles. WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the House of Representatives has learned of the death of former Lake Arthur mayor, E.R. "Red" Giles; and WHEREAS, Red served as mayor of Lake Arthur from 1991 until 2010 and was a longtime familiar face in local politics; and WHEREAS, during Mayor Giles's tenure, Lake Arthur received nearly $7 million in federal and state grants; additionally, he oversaw the construction of a new community center, the Field of Dreams recreational complex, a multi-million dollar flood control project, a heliport, and a new sewer plant; he also secured the extensive repairs of the Lake Arthur Town Hall following Hurricane Rita; and WHEREAS, Red is remembered as an extremely generous man who helped his community in any way that he could; he and friends formed the "Hot Box Brothers", which traveled around Louisiana and Texas with large barbecue pits to cook and raise money for various causes; and WHEREAS, Mayor Giles was a truly dedicated public servant committed to the well- being of Lake Arthur; he will be deeply missed but certainly never forgotten. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of former Lake Arthur mayor, E.R. "Red" Giles; does hereby recognize Red's unrelenting dedication to Lake Arthur and its citizens; and does hereby extend sincere hopes that his family, friends, and loved ones find comfort during this difficult time.
