ENROLLED 2021 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 145 BY REPRESENTATIVE COUSSAN A RESOLUTION To commend Acadian Ambulance on the occasion of the company's fiftieth anniversary. WHEREAS, founded in 1971, Acadian Companies is an employee-owned, multifaceted company with six divisions, a global reach, and a mission of improving the lives of patients, customers, and employees through its innovative spirit and dedicated team of professionals; and WHEREAS, Acadian is the largest employee-owned ambulance service in the nation and has earned a reputation as one of the nation's most respected and accomplished medical transportation companies; and WHEREAS, Acadian Ambulance Service began operations on September 1, 1971, with three co-founders, two ambulances, and eight medics covering two hundred seventy- nine square miles of Lafayette Parish; and WHEREAS, since then, Acadian Ambulance has been in continuous operation through hurricanes, floods, ice storms, and even a pandemic; and WHEREAS, over the past five decades, Acadian Ambulance's service area has grown to include thirty-five parishes in Louisiana, thirty-five counties in Texas, one county in Mississippi, and one county in Tennessee; their fleet includes six hundred twenty-eight ambulances, twelve helicopters, and five fixed-wing aircraft staffed by two thousand seven hundred medics who transport more than six hundred thirty-five thousand patients annually; and WHEREAS, Acadian Ambulance is one of the only companies in the nation to be accredited by both the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services and the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 145 ENROLLED WHEREAS, in the 1980s, Acadian began providing medics to work on oil installations in the Gulf of Mexico in the form of Safety Management Systems; in 2003, Acadian launched the National EMS Academy, which has a fully accredited partnership with South Louisiana Community College and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service to educate EMTs and paramedics for agencies across the United States; and WHEREAS, Acadian partnered with the NAACP and local inclusion and diversity groups to provide a scholarship program for young men and women interested in a career in emergency medical services; and WHEREAS, Acadian Companies has garnered international acclaim and recognition as a result of the dedication of its employee-owners; it has been recognized by the American Ambulance Association, the United States Senate, Bill Gates, Inc. Magazine, and even the Smithsonian Institution; and WHEREAS, Acadian Ambulance Service is most deserving of the highest recognition for its dedicated service to the people of Louisiana and beyond for the last fifty years. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Acadian Ambulance on the occasion of the company's fiftieth anniversary; does hereby recognize that immense pride that Acadian has brought to the great state of Louisiana; and does hereby extend sincere wishes for their continued success over the next fifty years.
