HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 153

A RESOLUTION
To recognize May 16-22, 2021, as Emergency Medical Services Week in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, in
partnership with the American College of Emergency Physicians, has designated the week
of May 16-22, 2021, as Emergency Medical Services Week, nationally, the theme of which
is "This is EMS: Caring for Our Communities"; and
WHEREAS, emergency medical services are an essential public service and a vital
facet of healthcare; and
WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide
lifesaving care to those in need twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival
and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
WHEREAS, emergency medical services fill a gap by providing out of hospital care,
which includes providing preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine;
and
WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of emergency medical
responders, emergency medical technicians, advanced emergency medical technicians,
paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators,
administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained
members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers; and
WHEREAS, members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or
volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to
enhance their lifesaving skills; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana to recognize the accomplishments of emergency medical service

providers by recognizing May 16-22, 2021, as Emergency Medical Services Week in
Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize May 16-22, 2021, as Emergency Medical
Services Week in Louisiana and does hereby encourage the citizens of Louisiana to observe
this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
