ENROLLED 2021 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 16 BY REPRESENTATIVE BISHOP A RESOLUTION To commend Su King on the occasion of her retirement from House Legislative Services. WHEREAS, Su King was born to Dr. Avery "Bud" King and Agnes Burke King in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, and grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee; she attended Louisiana State University to study music and march in the Tiger Band but shifted her academic focus to political science; she graduated from LSU with a bachelor of arts degree in political science in 1973 and then completed a master of arts degree in political science with a focus on Russian studies; and WHEREAS, after college, Su spent two years working for the Coordinating Council for Higher Education and the Board of Regents; she joined the Louisiana legislative staff as the assistant clerk, under David Poynter, for the Louisiana House of Representatives during the 1977 Regular Session; in that same year, she transferred to the Governmental Affairs section of the Legislative Council under the tutelage of Anne Dunn; and WHEREAS, when the Legislative Council split in 1982, Su transferred to the newly formed House Fiscal Division and served as a legislative analyst on the Appropriations and Ways and Means committees; after ten years in the Fiscal Division, she moved to the Resource and Infrastructure Division as an analyst for the Transportation, Highways and Public Works committee; in 1996, she moved to the Natural Resources committee and remained in this position until her retirement; and WHEREAS, over the course of her impressive career, Su has served the legislature for forty-four regular sessions, forty-four extraordinary sessions, and under seven governors and eleven speakers; her passion for legislative work is evidenced by her nearly four-and-a- half decades of dedicated service to the legislature, and she is most deserving of recognition and gratitude for her amazing career. Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 16 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Su King on the occasion of her retirement from House Legislative Services; does hereby offer sincere gratitude to Su for her many years of faithful service to the Legislature of Louisiana; does hereby recognize her countless contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend sincere hopes and wishes for a most enjoyable retirement.
