ENROLLED 2021 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 179 BY REPRESENTATIVE FREEMAN A RESOLUTION To commend the Eleanor McMain Secondary School boys' basketball team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2021 Class 4A state championship. WHEREAS, the Eleanor McMain Secondary School Mustangs boys' basketball team captured their school's first ever basketball state title by defeating the top-seeded George Washington Carver Rams, 49-48, in the Class 4A state championship game at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles on March 14, 2021; and WHEREAS, the District 11-4A rivals battled down to the final seconds of the title match; the Mustangs' Corey Chest earned two free throws with less than one second to play and the score tied, 48-48; he hit one of the two shots to give his team a 49-48 victory; and WHEREAS, McMain head coach, Steven Kelly, commented on the significance of his team's victory after the game saying that the win was "huge ... not only for our communities, but for the city of New Orleans. We're bringing the trophy back Uptown. That's one thing that is so huge for us"; and WHEREAS, the coaches and members of the Eleanor McMain Secondary School boys' basketball team are most deserving of recognition for their inspiring season. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Eleanor McMain Secondary School boys' basketball team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2021 Class 4A state championship; does hereby recognize the significance of the team's championship win for the city of New Orleans; and does hereby extend sincere hopes for the team's continued success.
