HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 181

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Isidore Newman School boys' swim team on winning the Louisiana High
School Athletic Association 2019 Division IV state championship.
WHEREAS, the Isidore Newman School boys' swim team captured their fifth-
consecutive state title with their performance at the 2019 Division IV state swim meet in
Sulphur; and
WHEREAS, the Newman boys' swim program now holds thirteen state titles; and
WHEREAS, Newman took home first, second, and third place in the 500 yard
freestyle event and the 100 yard backstroke event; and
WHEREAS, Newman junior Pierce Thionville won both of his individual events and
broke the oldest school record in the 500 yard freestyle by nearly an entire second with a
time of 4:35.21; he also won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 51.09, which missed
another school record by one hundredth of a second; and
WHEREAS, in addition to Mr. Thionville's performance, Newman freshman
Christian Johnson finished as runner-up in both of his events, and Pepijn Kuiper finished as
runner-up in the 200 yard freestyle; and
WHEREAS, the Newman relay teams in the 200 yard medley and the 400 yard
freestyle both placed first as well; and
WHEREAS, the Isidore Newman School boys' swim team is most deserving of
recognition for their outstanding performance in the LHSAA 2019 state swim meet.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Isidore Newman School boys' swim team
on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2019 Division IV state
championship; does hereby recognize the team's dominance as they have captured the last
five state titles; and does hereby extend sincere hopes for the continued success of the team.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
principal of Isidore Newman School.
