ENROLLED 2021 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 75 BY REPRESENTATIVE CARPENTER A RESOLUTION To commend J. Terrell Brown, Sr., on receipt of an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Southern University. WHEREAS, J. Terrell Brown, Sr., graduated from Louisiana State University in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in finance and insurance; he is a tremendously successful entrepreneur who cofounded GMFS Mortgage and GoAuto Insurance, two successful Baton Rouge-based businesses; his business ventures often focus on investing and consulting with those seeking to develop new and innovative approaches to real estate, housing, mobile technology, movie production, and software; and WHEREAS, Mr. Brown is an involved member of the Baton Rouge business community; he has served in many leadership roles including chairman of the board of the Credit Bureau Foundation of Baton Rouge; chairman and CEO of United Companies; and director on the boards of US Agencies, Sizelar Properties, Hibernia National Bank, Freeport McMoRan Sulphur, and Piccadilly Corporation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Brown also commits his time and expertise to give back to the community; he has served as chairman of the board of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and Research Park Corporation, and he is the cofounder of Innovation Catalyst, a nonprofit venture development organization; he also served on the board of the LSU Foundation and the E.J. Ourso College of Business Dean's Advisory Council; and WHEREAS, Mr. Brown served for over two decades on the board of LSU's Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation, including three years as chair; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 75 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Mr. Brown's involvement in the Baton Rouge community has earned him numerous accolades; in 1997, he was inducted into the Ourso College of Business Hall of Distinction, and in 1998, he was inducted into the LSU Alumni Association Hall of Distinction; and WHEREAS, on Friday, May 14, 2021, during the Spring 2021 Commencement, Southern University will award Mr. Brown an honorary doctorate of humane letters; he was the benefactor for the university's first endowed chair, The James A. Joseph/United Companies Financial Corporation Endowed Chair in Small and Minority Business Enterprise; and WHEREAS, J. Terrell Brown, Sr., is a true pillar in the Baton Rouge business community; his commitment to the community through philanthropic donations and civic involvement is deserving of the highest recognition. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend J. Terrell Brown, Sr., on receipt of an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Southern University; does hereby recognize Mr. Brown's decades of service to the Baton Rouge community; and does hereby extend sincere hopes for his continued success.
