ENROLLED 2021 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 97 BY REPRESENTATIVES MCFARLAND AND MIKE JOHNSON A RESOLUTION To commend Samantha Paul on winning the 2021 Louisiana Agriscience Teachers Association Essay Contest. WHEREAS, Samantha Paul is a sophomore FFA member and chapter president at Tioga High School where Ms. Debbie McFarland serves as the agriscience teacher and FFA advisor; and WHEREAS, the National FFA Organization prepares and trains students for leadership and professions in the science, business, and technology of agriculture in public schools throughout our nation with over eleven thousand members in two hundred and four chapters here in Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the mission of the FFA organization is to make a positive difference in the lives of young people by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Agriscience Teachers Association (LATA) represents the interests of the agriscience teaching profession in the state and provides resources for strengthening middle school and high school agriscience programs by enhancing the skills of agriscience teachers; and WHEREAS, the LATA sponsors an annual essay contest for current agriscience students and FFA members to participate; and WHEREAS, the 2021 LATA Essay Contest writing topic was "Why should agricultural literacy be taught in every grade level?"; and WHEREAS, out of the numerous competitors statewide, Samantha Paul was selected as the 2021 LATA Essay Contest state winner on February 28, 2021. Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 97 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Samantha Paul of the Tioga High School FFA Chapter on winning the 2021 LATA Essay Contest and exemplifying the excellence of Louisiana agriscience students.
