HLS 21RS-2524 ORIGINAL 2021 Regular Session HOUSE STUDY REQUEST NO. 3 BY REPRESENTATIVE WRIGHT EDUCATION: Requests the House Committee on Education, or a subcommittee thereof, to study the use of critical race theory in education 1 A STUDY REQUEST 2To the House Committee on Education, or a subcommittee thereof, to study the use of 3 critical race theory in education, and to report findings to the House of 4 Representatives prior to the convening of the 2022 Regular Session of the 5 Legislature of Louisiana. 6 WHEREAS, the Constitution of Louisiana provides that it is the goal of the state's 7public educational system to afford every individual an equal opportunity to develop to his 8full potential; and 9 WHEREAS, concerns have been raised about the use of critical race theory in 10elementary and secondary schools and postsecondary education institutions; and 11 WHEREAS, in order to fulfill the state's constitutional duty of affording every 12student an equal opportunity to develop to his full potential, it is appropriate that the use of 13critical race theory in education receive a thorough evaluation. 14 THEREFORE, the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana requests 15the House Committee on Education, or a subcommittee thereof, to study the use of critical 16race theory in education and to report findings to the House of Representatives prior to the 17convening of the 2022 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the committee or subcommittee is requested to 19study the use of critical race theory not only in the classroom but in training programs for 20faculty, staff, and students.
