(gov sig) 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact Code of Civil Procedure Art. 192.2(B), relative to interpreters in 3 certain civil proceedings; to provide relative to costs; and to provide for related 4 matters. 5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. Code of Civil Procedure Art. 192.2(B) is hereby amended and reenacted 7 to read as follows: 8 Art. 192.2. Appointment of interpreter for non-English-speaking persons 9 * * * 10 B. The Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the 11 court shall order payment to the interpreter for his services at a fixed reasonable 12 amount, and that amount shall be paid out of the appropriate court fund, except as 13 provided in Paragraph C of this Article. The amount paid out of the fund may be 14 taxed by the court as costs of court to be reimbursed to the fund. 15 * * * 16 Section 2. DIGEST SB 113 Engrossed 2021 Regular Session Tarver Present law requires the court to order payment out of the court fund to the interpreter for his services at a fixed reasonable amount in civil proceedings, except in cases of domestic abuse where a protective order is sought. Present law specifies that the amount paid out of the court fund may be taxed by the court as costs of court to be reimbursed to the fund. Proposed law eliminates the authorization that the amount paid out of the court fund to the interpreter to be cast as court costs to be reimbursed to the fund. Proposed law eliminates the authorization for the court to cast as court costs the amount paid to interpreters in cases of domestic abuse when a protective order is sought. Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action. (Amends C.C.P.
