2021 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 28 BY SENATORS CATHEY, MORRIS AND JACKSON A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend and congratulate the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of its sixty-fifth anniversary. WHEREAS, prior to 1956, the businesses of West Monroe realized the need for an organization to address merchant concerns and formed the West Monroe Merchants Association; and WHEREAS, the West Monroe Chamber of Commerce was officially chartered on March 31, 1956, when a group of business and community leaders led by Mr. A. O. Evans spearheaded the formation of the chamber; and WHEREAS, the goal of the new chamber was to continue the exceptional work of the West Monroe Merchants Association and to foster a stronger business community for West Monroe; and WHEREAS, Mr. A. O. Evans served as the first president of the chamber and Mr. George E. Wylie served as the first executive employed by the chamber; and WHEREAS, the chamber's first banquet was held on October 16, 1956, a tradition which continues to this day; and WHEREAS, due to the tremendous growth in population throughout West Ouachita Parish, the chamber's board of directors voted in 1986 to change the name of the chamber to the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, the chamber has fostered economic growth and advocated for the West Monroe community through active involvement in legislative affairs at the city, police jury, state, and federal levels; and WHEREAS, the chamber's success can be measured in the outstanding rates of growth for West Ouachita Parish and the quality of life for its residents; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 28 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the chamber's strong involvement in public education, industrial development, and better highways has resulted in improved infrastructure and furthered economic development in the region; and WHEREAS, the chamber continues its proud legacy of not only representing the businesses in Ouachita Parish but continuing to "GROW WEST and GROW WEST LEADERS"; and WHEREAS, the legacy of the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce remains that of an influential, vital, and dynamic force for the cultivation of economic potential in a prosperous community; and WHEREAS, for sixty-five years the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce has served as an integral component that makes the community a great place in which to live, work, and play. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of its sixty-fifth anniversary. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend best wishes to the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce for continued growth and success in the future.
