SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 128
BY SENATORS MORRIS, CATHEY AND JACKSON 
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate the Monroe Chamber of Commerce on the celebration of its
one hundredth anniversary.
WHEREAS, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce was established in 1921 as a
business trade association to serve the needs of the growing number of businesses in
Ouachita Parish; and
WHEREAS, over the past one hundred years, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce
has played a vital role as an advocate to ensure that businesses prosper and grow; and
WHEREAS, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce played a critical role in the
establishment of major institutions, including the Ouachita Parish Junior College, later
renamed the Northeast Junior College of Louisiana State University, which is now the
University of Louisiana Monroe, and the Louisiana Delta Community College; and
WHEREAS, over the past century, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce has been a
regional leader in workforce development and in connecting employers with training
providers and area students to ensure that residents have access to good jobs; and
WHEREAS, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce has worked aside the city of
Monroe and the Ouachita Parish Police Jury to ensure that important infrastructure projects
are identified, funded, and built, including the Monroe Regional Airport, the North 18th
Street Extension, the Forsythe Extension, the Kansas Lane Extension, and the Greater
Ouachita Parish Port; and
WHEREAS, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce has worked to grow the economy
of the city of Monroe and Ouachita Parish by fostering business expansion and retention; and
WHEREAS, several global businesses have begun in the city of Monroe, including
Lumen Technologies Inc., formerly CenturyLink, and Delta Air Lines, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Coca-Cola was first bottled in the city of Monroe; and
WHEREAS, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce works continuously to foster the
spirit of entrepreneurship and economic growth in the city of Monroe and Ouachita Parish.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate the Monroe Chamber of Commerce on the
celebration of its one hundredth anniversary.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Monroe Chamber of Commerce.
