2021 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 18 BY SENATOR JACKSON A RESOLUTION To establish a task force to study crime and crime prevention in Morehouse Parish and to require the task force to make recommendations. WHEREAS, while Morehouse Parish has been recognized nationally as a great place to live because of its affordability, low traffic, and mild winters, its increasing crime rate detracts from its desirability; and WHEREAS, a strategic approach to address crime and crime prevention in Morehouse Parish is essential to reducing the crime rate and enhancing quality of life for residents of the parish. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby establish the Morehouse Parish Crime and Crime Prevention Task Force to study crime and crime prevention in Morehouse Parish, and requires the task force to make recommendations. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Morehouse Parish Crime and Crime Prevention Task Force shall be comprised of the following: (1) Each member of the Louisiana Senate whose district includes a portion of Morehouse Parish, or his designee. (2) The chief law enforcement officer of each municipality located in Morehouse Parish, or his designee. (3) The sheriff of Morehouse Parish, or his designee. (4) The city marshal of the city of Bastrop, or his designee. (5) The district attorney for Morehouse Parish, or his designee. (6) The district public defender for the Fourth Judicial District, or his designee. (7) The chair of the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, or his designee. Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 18 ENROLLED (8) The president of the Bastrop/Morehouse Parish branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), or his designee. (9) A constituent appointment by each member of the Louisiana Senate and the Louisiana House of Representatives whose district includes any portion of Morehouse Parish. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force shall be chaired by the senator representing Senate District No. 34, and it may elect a vice chair and other officers as determined to be necessary. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force shall meet at such times and places as determined by its chair. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a majority of the total membership shall constitute a quorum of the task force, and any official action by the task force shall require an affirmative vote of a majority of the quorum present and voting. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the task force shall serve without compensation, except per diem or expenses reimbursement to which they may be individually entitled as members of their constituent organizations. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force shall receive staff support from the district office of the senator representing Senate District No. 34. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force shall receive public testimony and comment, and shall report its findings and recommendations to the president of the Louisiana Senate on or before March 1, 2022. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted to the chief law enforcement officer in each municipality in Morehouse Parish, the sheriff of Morehouse Parish, the city marshal of Bastrop, the district attorney for Morehouse Parish, the district public defender for the Fourth Judicial District, the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, the Bastrop/Morehouse Parish branch of the NAACP, and each member of the Louisiana House of Representatives whose district includes any portion of Morehouse Parish.
