2021 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 191 BY SENATOR JOHNS A RESOLUTION To commend Jim "Doc" Murphy on the occasion of his retirement from McNeese State University. WHEREAS, Jim "Doc" Murphy is a native of Springdale, Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, Doc Murphy is a graduate of the Texas Medical Center in Galveston, Texas, and a licensed physical therapist; and WHEREAS, Doc began his career at McNeese in 1975 when Jack Doland was the head football coach and spent thirteen seasons at McNeese as its head athletic trainer; and WHEREAS, in 1988, Doc left McNeese for a job in El Paso, Texas; and WHEREAS, Doc returned to McNeese in 1994 for a twenty-year run before taking a job as a physical therapist in West Texas in 2014; and WHEREAS, in 2018 Doc returned to "Cowboy Country" to lead the sports medicine department; and WHEREAS, when Doc Murphy started at McNeese, there were approximately one hundred twenty-five athletes, all males, in eight sports, some of whom played two sports; and WHEREAS, during his thirty-six-year career, Doc Murphy has seen tens of thousands of athletes walk through his door, including athletic greats Leonard Smith, Buford Jordan, Stephan Starring, Ann Robique, and Joe Dumars; and WHEREAS, Jim "Doc" Murphy is the recipient of multiple awards and honors over the years, including the prestigious Jim Finks Award, recognition as Trainer of the Year by the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association in 2009, induction into the McNeese Sports Hall of Fame in 2011, and induction into the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame. Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 191 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Jim "Doc" Murphy on the occasion of his retirement from McNeese State University and does hereby extend to him best wishes for many healthy and happy years in retirement.
