2021 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 76 BY SENATORS CLOUD AND PEACOCK A RESOLUTION To recognize Monday, May 10, 2021, as Alzheimer's Awareness Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. WHEREAS, there are currently more than ninety-two thousand people in Louisiana suffering from Alzheimer's disease or other forms of related dementia; and WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States; and WHEREAS, it is estimated that more than two hundred thirty-two thousand family caregivers in Louisiana provide three hundred and eighteen million hours of unpaid care for family members with Alzheimer's disease; and WHEREAS, studies predict that by the year 2025, one hundred ten thousand Louisiana residents will be living with Alzheimer's disease; and WHEREAS, the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease include difficulty remembering newly learned information; disorientation; mood and behavioral changes; deepening confusion about events, times, and places; unfounded suspicions about family, friends, and caregivers; and difficulty speaking, swallowing, and walking; and WHEREAS, research is ongoing to uncover critical information for the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of related dementia. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Monday, May 10, 2021, as Alzheimer's Awareness Day at the Louisiana State Capitol and does hereby encourage residents of the great state of Louisiana to raise awareness of this devastating disease.
